World Soil Health Day celebrated

JAMMU, Dec 5: World Soil Health Day was celebrated across the State.
Department of Agriculture in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra of SKUAST-Jammu today celebrated World Soil Health Day with the theme of Sustainable Agriculture.
Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Sham Lal Choudhary was the chief guest on the occasion whereas Vice Chairman J&K State Advisory Board for the Development of Kissans Daljit Singh Chib was the guest of honour.
Addressing the farmers, Sham Choudhary assured them of redress of their genuine grievances especially disbursement of SDRF and losses suffered due to recent border disturbances for which on spot instructions were issued to the concerned departments. He said the coalition government in the State is committed to uplift the socio-economic condition of the farmers and various steps have already been taken in this regard.
Speaking on the occasion, Daljit Singh Chib also highlighted the policies of State as well as Central Government being implemented for the overall welfare and benefit of the farming community. He said that farmer is the practical scientist and continuously strives to maximize the production.
Director Agriculture Production Department Jammu, AK Malhotra, Associate Director Extension (KVK’s) SKUAST-J, Dr RK Arora, Chief Agriculture Officer Jammu RL Bhagat, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK Jammu Dr Vikas Tandon, concerned senior officers and farmers were present on the occasion.
A Pamphlet “Swasth Dhara- Khet Hara” was also released on the occasion. Kissan Ghosthi and scientific interactions were also conducted jointly by the scientist of KVK and Officers of Agriculture Production Department during the programme.
Minister for Industries and Commerce, Chander Parkash Ganga has stressed the need for adopting innovative techniques to increase the agriculture production in the Samba district.
The Minister was speaking at a function organized in connection with “World Health Soil Day”, today at Samba.
On the occasion, Vice-Chairman, Jammu and Kashmir State Advisory Board for Welfare and Development of the Other Backward Classes (OBC) Rashpaul Verma, MLA Samba Devinder Kumar Manyal, Deputy Commissioner Samba Sheetal Nanda besides all district heads of allied sectors including scientists from SKUAST (J) and a large number of progressive farmers were also present.
Ganga asked the officers to regularly organize awareness programmes for the farming community at village level for balanced use of fertilizers to increase productivity and soil health.
On the occasion, the Minister also distributed soil health cards and soil testing kit for micro nutrients among the participants.
A documentary on innovative techniques and soil sample collection was also screened during the programme.
Minister of State for Finance, Planning, IT, Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Ajay Nanda emphasized on importance of regular soil testing and balanced fertilization in preserving the quality of soil, water and food for the present and future generations.
The Minister was speaking during an awareness programme organized by the Agriculture department on the occasion of World Soil Health Day at Reasi.
Minister said the state-wide campaign for soil testing is being undertaken to provide assistance to the farmers about the health of soil. He urged the farmers to test their soil regularly and use fertilizers as per the recommendations of the experts so as to reduce unnecessary expenditure.
Incharge Soil Testing Laboratory, Vinod Dhar was also present on the occasion.
A documentary and animated films on various techniques of Soil sampling and testing were also shown to the farmers on the occasion.
