JAMMU, June 17: Yudhvir Sethi, J&K BJP Vice President lauded the wrestlers for their efforts in preserving the traditional and thrilling sport of wrestling. He emphasized the need to regain the sport’s lost prominence by harnessing the enthusiasm displayed by the younger generation.
He was speaking during a Dangal Championship organized by the Jagti Dangal Committee on the outskirts of Jammu; Sethi acknowledged the remarkable interest and encouragement wrestling receives among today’s youth, despite the dominance of cricket and football in the sports landscape.
“The enthusiasm for wrestling among the youth is amazing and encouraging,” Sethi remarked and commended the wrestlers for their dedication to the sport, which has allowed it to continue captivating audiences and attracting new participants.
In the Dangal, Wrestler Bhupinder from Punjab has won the Dangal tittle by defeating his opponent Benia Wrestler from Jammu. More than 82 fights were organized in Dangal.
Sethi also highlighted the efforts of the Modi Government in promoting sports across the country. He pledged to remain at the forefront of efforts to boost sports in his constituency, ensuring that talented individuals receive the recognition they deserve at the state and national levels.
He also raised concern over the increasing drug activities in the society. He emphasized the dire need to redirect the attention of the youth towards sports as a means to combat this pressing issue, adding that engaging the youth in sports activities can play a crucial role in diverting their attention away from drugs and channeling their energy towards positive pursuits. “Sports not only promote physical fitness and mental well-being but also foster discipline, teamwork, and a sense of purpose among the participants.”
The senior BJP leader also reaffirmed his commitment to supporting initiatives that promote sports and nurture sporting talent in Jammu and Kashmir. He extended his congratulations to the competitors and organizers of the event, acknowledging their commitment to making the championship exciting and captivating through their exceptional performances.
