Wrestling extravaganza held

JAMMU, Sept 27: In the fond memory of Peer Monga Nath (social reformer), a wrestling extravaganza was held at Tohana in RS Pura, today.
It is pertinent to mention here that Peer Monga Nath was an eminent secular personality, who was very popular among all the communities of Bhimber. For that matter, the entire population of this area had started wrestling tournament in his memory over 150 years back and this tradition is being continued by members of the Chibhal after partition of 1947 also.
Reputed wrestlers from the State of Jammu and Kashmir and adjoining areas of Punjab participated in the tournament, which was witnessed by thousands of people from all walks of life.
Former Minister, RS Chib was the chief guest on the occasion, who while speaking said such events will help to promote sports activities among the youth and help in strengthening communal harmony, leading to National Integration.
The tournament committee was headed by Sain Singh Chib, who expressed his gratitude to all the participants and the general public for making this event a great success.
On the occasion, Mr Chib honoured 14 ace wrestlers of the State in recognition of their contribution for promoting wrestling in the State of Jammu and Kashmir. The wrestlers included SP Dushyant Sharma, president, J&K Wrestling Association and former president Wrestling Federation of India, Om Pahalwan (BDO), Vijay Kumar, Bachan Singh alias Kala, Raju Sharma, Ramesh Chander, Billa Pahalwan, Dheeraj Sharma, Lok Nath Gupta, Chandhary Nagar, Om Prakash, Mohd Sadiq, Rattan Lal and Swaran Lal.
While speaking, Dushyant Sharma described the event of utmost importance.
Sain Singh Chib presented vote of thanks.
