Wrestling Mela held

JAMMU, Oct 8: Annual Wrestling (Chhinj) Mela was held at Devsthan of Baba Peer Monga Nath Ji at village Satraiyan, R.S. Pura here today.
Minister for Medical and Technical Education, Youth Services and Sports, R S Chib was the chief guest on the occasion.
MLA Suchetgarh, Sham Lal Chowdhary, Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Pradeep Gupta IG Jammu, Dilbag Singh, Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Sanjeev Verma, Tehsildar R.S. Pura, R.L. Sharma, Tehsildar Settlement, Sanjay Badhyal, Assistant Commissioner Jammu, Tilak Raj Shastri, S.P (HQ), Shalinder Singh, Sarpanchs, Panchs, prominent citizens and sports lovers were present on the occasion.
Various wrestlers from J&K and neighbouring States of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pardesh took part in the wrestling.
As many as, 230 wrestling bouts were held in the competition. The first bout (Mali) is of one lakh and one thousand which was won by Pamma of Dera Baba Nanak Punjab who was awarded with silver Gurj costing Rs. 85000 and Tinku from Delhi was runner up was awarded with a cash prize of Rs. 11000. Meanwhile, there was a tie in second bout between Jony from Punjab and Kaka Chib of R.S. Pura which is of Rs. 41000 with Rs. 21000 as cash prize to winner and Rs. 7000 for runner. Similarly, a third bout is of Rs. 21000  which was won by Billu of Jammu was awarded with cash prize of Rs. 11,000 and Kuljeet from Haryana was runner up  and was awarded with a cash prize of Rs. 3000 respectively. Chib appreciated gesture of Wrestling Committee for organizing the event which also provide an opportunity to locals to interact with administration so that their legitimate demands would be redressed.
After paying obeisance at Baba Peer Monga Nath Ji Devsthan, Chib said that such type of events will boost the morale of the wrestlers adding that the State Government was committed to promote sports and host significant sports events in the State.
Describing Baba Peer Monga Nath Ji as a great saint, the Minister said that Baba Peer Monga Nath Ji was a social activist who always work for the upliftment of the weaker and downtrodden section of the society.
The Minister said that participation of professionals from various parts of the country would provide our budding sports persons an opportunity to learn new techniques and skills and encourage them to leave an indelible mark in national and international events.
