BANDIPORA, July 1: Army, MARCOS, J&K Water Sports Association and District Civil Administration in a joint venture organised Wular Sports Festival 2019-20, which concluded here today.
The finals of the mega event on July 1, 2019 saw over 1400 locals, including women and children cheering for their respective teams.
Commander Watlab Sector alongwith other important dignitaries, including Mr Usman Majid, SSP Bandipora and Sopore and ADC Bandipora were also present.
The 3-day Sports Festival was aimed at creating environmental and sports awareness amongst the locals residing on the banks of Wular Lake and to make people realise the tourism potential of the vast natural gift called ‘Wular’.
The Sports Festival saw 37 villages actively participating in kistie races as well as in ‘Jashn-e-Wular’ Run.
Continuing with events on the final day, finals of Five and Three Men Kistie Races were conducted alongwith cultural events by Army Goodwill School, Bandipora, besides melodious performances were presented by the local troupe showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Kashmir.
“Wular Sports Festival has set an example to establish peace and tranquillity in the Valley,” claim organisers.
