BARAMULLA, Dec 22: The three-day long Wushu championship concluded at Chandiloora Tangmarg here. Deputy Commissioner Baramulla Dr G N Itoo presided as the chief guest at the valedictory function.
The championship was organized by Wushu Association Baramulla in which about 180 Wushu players in different age categories viz U-14, U-17 and U- 19 participated across the district.
The chief guest while addressing the participants highlighted several positive aspects of sports activities and said that such events help youth to channelize their potential in a right direction.
He emphasized upon the youth to come forward and involve themselves in sports events. He termed sports as a best way to relieve youth from the scourge of drug addiction.
He also announced Rs10,000 cash awarded for Zainab who excelled in the previous international Wushu champaionship.
The DDC reiterated that administration will develop sports infrastructure across the district adding that a Wushu Club will also be established in near feature.
The DC also designated Bronze winning international Wushu medalist Jabeena Akhter as Brand Ambassador for the propagation of the centrally sponsored ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ and ‘Khelo India’ programmes.
Later, the DC distributes awards and prizes among the best performing players.
