SRINAGAR:Yatra resumed from Baltal after remaining suspended yesterday while it continued from traditional Pahalgam track to holy Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas, where more than 2.31 lakh had darshan of the self made Ice-Shivlingam since the commencement of the 59-day-long pilgrimage from July 2.
A Yatra Control Room (YCR) official told that yatra from Baltal resumed this morning. However, pilgrims present at base camp were allowed to move towards the cave shrine as no fresh yatri arrived from Jammu due to closure of Sonmarg road following landslides.
Yesterday, pilgrimage from this shortest route was suspended due to slippery track conditions following rain. Weather has improved and track was safe for undertaking the pilgrimage, he said, adding that the yatris are scheduled to reach the cave shrine this afternoon to have the darshan. Pilgrims, who paid obeisance yesterday, have also started their return journey to Baltal base camp.
He said fresh batch of pilgrims, including women, sadhus and children, left Nunwan Pahalgam base camp for Chandanwari, the last motorable halting station. However, pilgrims, who had night halt at Chandanwari, also started onward journey for next halting station. The pilgrimage is going on smoothly, he said, adding that yesterday, 13,718 yatris paid obeisance at the cave shrine. (AGENCIES)
