Yatra resumes from Baltal, continues from Pahalgam, 2.60 lakh pay obeisance

SRINAGAR:Yatra to holy Amarnath cave shrine from Baltal resumed this afternoon after remaining suspended since morning due to slippery track following overnight rains.
Pilgrimage continued from traditional Pahalgam track to holy cave, where so far 2.60 lakh pilgrims from different parts of the country had paid obeisance since the commencement of the 59-day-long annual yatra from July 2.
“We resumed yatra from shortest Baltal route after reports were received that 16-km-long track was safe for undertaking the pilgrimage to holy cave, a Yatra Control Room (YCR) official told UNI.
He said a total of 1,342 pilgrims had left the base camp for the cave shrine from Baltal today.
The official said 43 pilgrims had arrived in Baltal today from Sonmarg after covering the distance on foot as road was still closed due to landslides.
He said rest of the pilgrims had arrived at the base camp till last night.
He said today about 2,000 pilgrims, including women, sadhus and children, had paid obeisance at the cave shrine till 1200 hrs.
Despite rain, fresh batch of pilgrims, including women and sadhus, left Nunwan Pahalgam base camp at 0530 hrs for Chandanwari, the last motorable halting station on traditional 45-km-long track to holy Cave, he said.
He said the pilgrims were allowed as track was safe for undertaking the foot journey. Similarly, yatris, who had night halt at Chandanwari and other halting station on the track, also started their journey towards the cave shrine early this morning. (AGENCIES)
