During the British India rule, China then a nation of opium eaters had been lying low. But with the withdrawal of the British from the South Asian scene, China has been strongly nursing the old ambition of nibbling at the territories of her neighbors. First it was the Aksgam in Aksaichin region where she grabbed a large chunk of land that originally belonged to the Dogra Kingdom of Jammu and Kashmir. By luring Pakistan into her trap on the premise of latter’ animosity with India, China grabbed about 5000 square kilometers of J&K State. Her ambitions know no halt. Pakistan will have to repent one day on how she allowed herself to get entangled by the Chinese dragon.
Two years back China agreed to allow Indian pilgrims to proceed on yatra to Mansrovar, the holy lake via Nathu La in Sikkim. But this year Beijing suddenly declined to issue visa to batches of Indian yatris saying an atmosphere of tension had prevailed between the two countries and the visa had to be denied. Making no secret of her ulterior motives China demanded that India wind up her forward post at Doklam which she claims falls in Chinese territory. China did not raise any objection to India setting up the post in her own territory. These are simply pretext without any ground reality. However, as we are not going to magnify issues of border disputes here or there, and there is understanding of sorts between the two countries, the matter should be resolved through diplomatic channels and China has to be assured that yatra to the holy place of Mansrovar would highly strengthen cultural relations and goodwill between our two peoples.
