Young boxer wins gold in National Talent Hunt

SRINAGAR, Oct 28: Fifteen-year-old Bareena has won gold in the REC Combined National Talent Hunt Boxing Program for the year 2024-25, held in Rohtak, Haryana.
Hailing from Narwara area of Eidgah, Srinagar Bareena expressed her delight at the award, stating that it will help her excel further in the sport.
“During the championship, which was attended by athletes from different States, I learned new things from various coaches and it will definitely help me,” she said.
Bareena’s journey began in 2018, and since then, she has put in immense effort and dedication to reach this milestone.
“My father, who himself is a sportsperson, brought me to the stadium, and since then, I have been here,” she said.
She added that her family has been supportive throughout her journey, while her coach from the Sports Council, Farooq Ahmad Khan, has worked hard to hone my skills.
Speaking about her career so far, she said that she has participated in several district-level tournaments until the age of 13, when she started facing tougher competition.
Bareena’s role model is Muhammad Ali, and she aspires to compete internationally one day.
According to her coach, Bareena’s consistency and dedication culminated in her recent victory at the REC Combined Talent Hunt, where she claimed the gold medal.
