Young fencers blossom in Mini Nationals

JAMMU, Aug 25: Young fencers from the State excelled in the just concluded 5th Mini National Fencing Championship held at Nasik in Maharashtra. On their return these young fencers were encouraged by the J&K Amateur Fencing Association, here today.
While boys secured the overall runners-up trophy, the girls’ team remained overall third considering their medals tally in the individual and team events held in the three-day competition.
The team was accompanied by Shotu Lal of State Sports Council as chief coach while international fencer, Ujjwal Gupta was manager.
Sharing more details, team coach Shotu Lal informed that Mayank bagged silver in Sabre individual event and Tanish also clinched the silver in another event of foil individual.
Boys bagged a silver medal in Sabre team comprising of Mayank, Mridhual and Lakshay. Girls also won silver in foil team event with Shreya, Vanshika and Malvi giving their best performance. In boys Epee team, including Samarthya Sarthak and Rishab, J&K bagged a bronze. Another bronze medal came in girls’ individual event through Raghi while Tanish, Porvak and Aniruth clinched a bronze in boys’ foil team.
