JAMMU, Dec 2: Young Rovers drubbed Param Football Club by 3-1 goals in the inaugural fixture of the Christmas Soccer Championship organised by Christian Sports Organization in collaboration with J&K Police and Jammu Kashmir Football Association (JKFA) at GGM Science College Football ground, here today.
During the match, the first goal of the match was netted by Rakesh Roshan of Young Rovers in the 18th minute of the first half and just after five minutes, Vishal Angral chipped in another goal, thus bringing opponent team under pressure.
The players of Param Football Club strived hard to equalize the game, but failed and the first half ended with 2-0 goals.
In the second half, Rahul Verma of Young Rovers netted third goal of the match in the 45th minute and brought the opponent team under extreme pressure.
Arun Naghail of Param Football Club scored goal in 60th minute and brought down the scorecard to 3-1 goals.
After the goal in the 60th minute from Young Rovers side, players of Param Football Club were looking dominated and thus lost the match by 3-1 goals.
Earlier, the championship was inaugurated by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dilbagh Singh in the presence of Fr Kuriakose, head of the Gandhi Nagar Church, DIG Jammu-Kathua range JP Singh, SSP Jammu, VS Sambyal, other police officials, members of organizing committee and sports lovers.
While speaking, IGP said that many youths of State are involved in various illegal activities like bad company, drugs etc. and in order to divert their focus and bring them to the main stream, sports activities are the need of the hour for the better health and better future of youths.
He also assured full cooperation from the Police Department, so as to promote sports culture in the State.
Among others present were Surinder Singh Bunty, Resident Secretary, Jammu Kashmir Football Association, R K Kohli, Treasurer, SM Gill, ex-MLC, Coach Satpal, David Mattoo, Kuldeep Singh, Feastus Sotra, Rajesh Sumbria, Nirmal Gupta, Suresh Gupta, Amarjeet Singh, Harbans Lal, Saleem, Gaffoor Masih, Asif Gill, Joint Secretary, Sports Secretaries William Mattoo, Babu Bunty, Vice President Victor Sotra, Incharge committee David Mattoo, Benjamin, Donald Khokher, Navin Athwal and Sunny Gill.
The match was officiated by Rajiv Dev, Saudager Mattoo, Clint Mattoo and Harmanjeet Singh.
Elijah Sotra and Moon Stephan are the organizing secretaries, whereas the tournament is being organized under the supervision of Rajesh Gill, president, Christian Sports Organization.
In the tournament, 14 teams drawn from Jammu and Kashmir districts are participating.
In tomorrow’s fixture, Musa Club will lock horns with Jammu United and Jammu Sports will take on NGR at GGM Science College Football grounds.
