Young Star Baroo lifts Ist Kargil Shaheed Cricket Cup

KARGIL, Oct 5: Young Star Baroo lifted the 1st Kargil Shaheed Cricket Cup by defeating Young Star Kaksar by 7 wickets, here today.
Electing to bat first after winning the toss, Young Star Kaksar scored 145 runs in 20 overs which were chased successfully by Young Star Baroo in 16.5 overs. Fayaz Junior scored a fabulous half-century which confirmed the team’s victory.
After the successful conduct of Captain Sourab Kalia Cup, 121 Infantry Brigade and SEWAK Group Kaksar, a cricket tournament was organised at District Level in memory of those martyrs who laid their lives for the prosperity and peace of the Country in and around Kargil, which has the biggest prize money.
60 teams drawn from District Kargil participated in the tournament.
On the valedictory function GOC 8 Mountain Division, Maj Gen Ramond Naronha was the chief guest and the Commander 121 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier Shami Raj was the guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion the chief guest advised the people to maintain peace in the State by being cooperative to the Indian Army in all situations. Mohammad Hamza, Chairman SEWAK also spoke on the occasion.
The chief guest presented a cash prize of Rs 75,000 to the winners, while Rs 50,000 was presented to the runners-up team. Rs 25,000 was presented to the team which won third place.
On this occasion, Deputy Commissioner Kargil M Raju, SSP Kargil Javed Iqbal Matoo, Army Officers, Social Activist Ajaz Hussain Munshi, Manager SRTC Rahmatullah and Chairman SEWAK Mohammad Hamza, were also present.
