JAMMU, Feb 5: Demanding ownership rights for allottees of Custodian property in Jammu, activists of Youth Congress under the leadership of Pradesh Youth Congress (PYC) vice president Pranav Shagotra staged demonstration against the concerned authorities.
The protest demonstration was held in front of the Press Club of Jammu in which large number of Youth Congress activists along with numbers of Custodian allottees participated.
Addressing the gathering, Pranav Shagotra highlighted hardships being faced by the allottees of the Custodian properties. He said that with every passing day, problems of allottees have been compounding because authorities at the helm of the affairs have been making the process cumbersome rather than simplifying it for the people who have been living in custodian properties since 1947.
Mr Shagotra said that plight of these allotees can be gauged from the fact that, despite living in these properties for the last 67 years, occupants of these parties have to deposit huge amount as fee and also for construction of additional part in the property. He said that those who have been living in these properties since 1947 have all right to get ownership right.
He said that if an allottee undertakes any work to extend his allotted house/shop has to deposit fee with the Custodian Department and then only he/she gets permission for additional construction of the house. In this way, the allottee has to spend an extra amount for any additional construction in the house, which great injustice. He further said that if an allottee sells his allotted house/shop he has to deposit 50 per cent of the value of residential property and 70 per cent of the value of the shop to the Custodian Department, which is also a great injustice with the allottee.
PYC leader said that an allottee who has been occupying this property for the last several years deserve full rights on it, therefore, State Government should grant ownership rights to those allottees without further loss of time.
