UDHAMPUR, Aug 23: Drugs claimed another life when a youth from Sailan Talab in Udhampur died apparently because of overdoes of some narcotics, here today.
The deceased was identified as Mudassar (28), son of Gulam Qadir of Shiv Nagar Udhampur. In an unconscious condition, he was brought to Udhampur District Hospital where he died after some time.
After the doctors declared him dead, family members of the deceased reached hospital and demanded arrest of the persons, who had brought him there. They also held a protest demonstration and tried to block the Dhar Road near hospital.
After pacifying the family members, Police swung into action and claimed to have identified the person, who had brought the deceased to hospital, as Nikka Billa. Motorcycle of the deceased was also found parked near the house of Nikka Billa, Police said adding that a hunt has been launched to nab him.
As per Police records, both Mudassar and Nikka Billa were also involved in drug peddling in the area.
Meanwhile, reports from Chenani said that Police arrested a drug peddler from Goukaran area near Sudhmahadev and seized 60 gms Charas from his possession.
The accused was identified as Himat Singh, son of Tabit Singh of Ranka, Tehsil Assar, District Doda. In this connection, a case FIR number 75/2018 U/S 8/20 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Chenani and further investigation was going on.
