SRINAGAR, Aug 8: The Kashmir Women Cricket League 2024 wrapped up on a high note today at the iconic Sher-I-Kashmir Cricket Stadium, highlighting the incredible talent and spirit of women cricketers from the region. The tournament, organized by the 31 Sub Area under the Chinar Corps, showcased an impressive display of skills and sportsmanship over the past eight days.
The league’s grand finale saw the Anantnag Rebels face off against the Srinagar Knights in an electrifying match. The Anantnag Rebels emerged victorious, claiming the championship title in a thrilling contest.
The closing ceremony was attended by distinguished guests including Chief Justice (A) of J&K Tashi Rabstan, DGP Jammu and Kashmir RR Swain, and GOC 31 Sub Area. Indian cricket star Yuzvendra Chahal also graced the event as a special guest, offering words of encouragement and motivation to the players.
Chief Justice Rabstan praised the league for its role in promoting women’s cricket and empowering women in Kashmir, stating, “The enthusiasm and talent displayed by these young women are truly inspiring. This league not only promotes sports but also empowers the women of Kashmir.”
Echoing these sentiments, DGP RR Swain remarked, “The Kashmir Women Cricket League is a testament to the spirit and resilience of Kashmiri women. It is heartening to see such dedication and skill on the field.”
GOC 31 Sub Area emphasized the significance of the event, noting, “The Army is committed to fostering positive change and empowerment in the region. This league provides a platform for women to shine and achieve their dreams.”
Yuzvendra Chahal said, “I feel great to come here; the last time I visited was in 2009. J&K has a lot of talent, and I really hope that these talented players make it to the Indian team.”
With prizes totaling Rs 1,00,000 distributed among the teams and players, the league has set a new benchmark for women’s cricket in the region. The event, supported by the Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA), Ujala Cygnus Hospitals, and Hope Alive NGO, underscores a commitment to promoting women’s empowerment and driving positive societal change in Kashmir.
