KARGIL, Dec 23: Zahara Batool, a student of GHSS Akchamal and resident of Tambis Kargil, made Ladakh proud by winning Gold medal in the 68th National School Games Taekwondo Championship held in Dewas, Madhya Pradesh. Zahara competed in the Under-55 Kg U-19 Girls category and displayed exceptional skill, defeating athletes from top states like Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Kerala to claim victory in the finals.
In the same championship, Deasal Angmo from Melbekh Wakha, a student of JAME Kargil, competed in the Under-46 Kg category. Deasal advanced to the pre-quarterfinals but narrowly missed progression to the next stage, showcasing her determination and talent.
Zahara’s gold medal marks the first-ever Taekwondo gold for Ladakh at the School Games Federation of India (SGFI) championships. The Ladakh Taekwondo team, led by Coach Mohammad Ali and Team Manager Abdul Hamid, achieved this historic feat with support from the SAI Training Centre in Kargil.
Zahara was awarded a cash prize of Rs 5100 and an international Taekwondo kit by Master Atul Pangotra, Chief Technical Advisor of Ladakh Taekwondo Association. This achievement paves the way for further success in Taekwondo in Ladakh.
