KARGIL, Jan 1: The Youth Services and Sports Department of Ladakh Union Territory organized a felicitation ceremony at the Council Secretariat in Kargil to honour Zahra Batool and Dilshad Ali for their outstanding achievements in the 68th National School Games.
Zahra Batool clinched the Gold medal in the Under-55 Kg U-19 Girls category in Taekwondo, while Dilshad Ali earned a Bronze in Boxing in the Under-63 Kg category. Their accomplishments have brought immense pride and recognition to Ladakh.
The ceremony was attended by several key officials, including Tahir Hussain Zubdavi, Joint Director, Youth Services and Sports, UT Ladakh; Syed Ain ul Huda, Councillor of Parkachik at LAHDC, Kargil; and other dignitaries such as Mohd Issa Khan, Accounts Officer to the Joint Director; Syed Mehraj Ud Din Shah, President of the Ladakh Kho Kho Association; and Anayat Ali Shotopa, General Secretary of the Ladakh Taekwondo Association. The athletes were presented with traditional khataks and mementos in recognition of their hard work and success.
During the event, Zubdavi commended the athletes for their dedication and emphasized Ladakh’s growing potential in sports. He also highlighted upcoming initiatives, including the introduction of two new disciplines at the SAI Centre Kargil, which will provide more opportunities for athletes in the region. Zubdavi assured continued support to the youth, helping them reach even greater milestones.
Syed Mehraj Ud Din Shah expressed gratitude for the support from the Youth Services and Sports Department, noting the positive impact of such initiatives on athletes’ performances at both national and international levels. Anayat Ali Shotopa encouraged more youth from Ladakh to actively participate in sports, celebrating the ceremony as a source of inspiration for future athletes.
