SIMBAL, May 1: Defeating Nanak Nagar Club in a close contest by three goals to two (3-2) in the semifinals, Zorawar Club sailed into the finals of the ongoing 2nd Maharaja Ranjit Singh Gold Cup Hockey Tournament, being organized by Young Star Hockey Club Simbal Camp at Government High School, here.
Earlier, Nanak Nagar Club made the early inroads as it scored back to back two goals in first five minutes of the game. The first goal was pelted by Ravinder Singh in the 2nd minute of the match, which was followed by another goal netted by Ravneet Singh in the 5th minute.
However, the players of Zorawar Club bounced back in style as Gurib Singh displayed superb soccer skills to score back to back goals in 8th and 12th minute of the match, both via penalty corners to level the score.
This was followed by another goal by Sanjay Singh in 27th minute of the match to make it (3-2) in favour of Zorawar Club. Finally, Zorawar Club won by the same margin. The players of both the teams made some extraordinary moves, yet found it difficult to convert them into goals as the players were rock solid in defence.
Rajinder Singh, Sarpanch Simbal Camp was the chief guest on the occasion who witnessed the match with enthusiasm and fervour. He also interacted with the players of both the teams on the occasion. The tournament is being held under the overall supervision of Charanjeet Singh, organizing secretary.
The match was officiated by Jaspreet Singh, Daljeet Singh and Gurmeet Singh.
In second semifinal to be played tomorrow, Young Star Hockey Club Simbal Camp will take on Sittu Club. The winner of the match will play against Zorawar Club in the final.
