JAMMU, Nov 10: Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs and Tribal Affairs, Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali today stressed on the need to encourage the youth to take part in sports activities as they keep the body and mind fit.
The Minister said this while interacting with the members of the J&K wrestling team who would leave from Jammu on November 13, 2017 to participate in Senior National Championship to be held at Indore from November 15 to 18.
The Minister expressed great delight on the recent accomplishments of the State’s youth at various national and international platforms across different sporting events. He hoped that the wrestling team too outshines at the upcoming championship and continue bringing laurels to the State thus inspiring the youth to take up sports as a career choice.
The Minister was informed that 25 wrestlers have been selected to participate in the championship including 20 males and 5 females through a rigorous selection process at Bajrangi Akhara in Jammu.
MLA, Jammu East Rajesh Gupta, MLC Ashok Khajuria and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
Earlier, President J&K State Wrestling Association and former President Wrestling Federation of India, Dushyant Sharma presented welcome address.
The wrestlers who are going to participate in the championship include Ajeet Malhotra ,Mukesh Kumar Bhushan Mehra (65 kg), Sukhvinder Singh (70 kg), Muneer Ahmad (74 kg), Pardeep Kumar (79 kg), Bahadur Khan (92 kg), Mohammad Asif (97 kg), Udhay Sharma (86 kg), Ishaq Ahmad (130 kg), Gaurav Kumar (55 kg), Amit Manhas (60 kg), Sunny Sharma (63 kg), Rajinder Singh (67 kg), Ranjeet Singh 72 kg), Rajesh Sharma (77 kg), Roshan Lal (97 kg), Shakeel Khan (82 kg), Javeed Khan (87 kg), Salinder Singh (125 kg), Sakshi Dogra (48 kg), Kanchan Devi (53 kg), Reenu (58 kg), Drishti (55 kg) and Jaspreet Kour (68 kg).
