CHENNAI, June 14:
Officials of the Customs Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) today seized 1.33 kg gold valued at Rs 61.75 lakh and arrested two Sri Lankan women passengers, who arrived from Colombo at the Anna International airport here.
A release from the Office of the Commissioner of Customs said, based on intelligence, three Sri Lankan and one Indian female passengers, who arrived from Colombo were intercepted by the AIU officers. On search of their person, gold in rubbery paste form was found concealed in their under garments and rectum. The recovered gold weighing 1.33 kg and valued at Rs. 61.75 lakhs were seized under the Customs Act, 1962. Two Sri Lankan passengers, Vimalarani Thayananthan and Jeewani Coonghe Warnakulasuriya, have been arrested.
