JAMMU, Mar 4: A total 1.35 lakh foreign tourists visited Ladakh and Kashmir region while 198 lakh pilgrims visited Katra Mata Vaishnodevi shrine in last two years in the State.
In a written reply to the un-starred question of Devender Singh Rana in the Upper House today, Minister in-charge Tourism G A Mir disclosed that a total 69,496 foreigners visited Ladakh region while 66,309 in Kashmir during last two years. During 2012 , a total 12.70 lakh domestic and 37166 foreigners visited Kashmir; whereas, 1.40 lakh domestic and 38510 foreigners Ladakh region.
During 2013, a total 11.72 lakh tourists visited Kashmir whereas, 1.37 lakh tourist in Ladakh. Out of these figures, 30596 foreigners came in Ladakh while 29143 in Kashmir valley.
Mir further disclosed that during 2012, a total 1.04 crore pilgrim tourists visited Mata Vaishnodevi while 93.23 lakh during 2013. Besides this, 14.53 lakh pilgrims visited Shiv Khori and 9.51 lakh to Shahdara Sharief, 4.14 lakh to Mansar while 2.5 lakh to Patnitop during 2013. During 2012, a total 19.44 lakh pilgrims visited Shiv Khori, 9.85 lakh to Shahdara Shrief, 4.14 lakh to Mansar while 4.25 lakh to Patnitop.
