10 bovines seized, 2 smugglers held

KATHUA, Apr 22: Hiranagar Police has rescued 10 bovine animals which were being smuggled from Kathua to Kashmir Valley during a Naka in the area today and seized the truck besides arrested the driver and the bovine smuggler also.
According to police one Mohammed Rafiq Bakerwal S/o Mohammed Afzal of Suthra Hiranagar who had sought permission from district administration for carrying the milch cattle to Valley for pastures during Summer was on his way to Kashmir today.
The Hiranagar Police which had received information that the bovine animals are being carried in the truck instead of milch animals intercepted the truck bearing registration number JK021-8337. On checking the truck they found that the driver had created two compartments in it and in one compartment the goats and sheep were kept while the bovine were kept in another. The checking party found that instead of three milch animals as mentioned in the permission only one cow was found milch cow while others not. Police registered a FIR against the driver who was identified as Firdos Ahmed as well as smuggler Mohammed Rafiq and arrested both of them.
