JAMMU, Nov 28: The Department of Economics, Central University of Jammu (CUJ), successfully organized a 10-day Research Methodology Course in Social Sciences, sponsored by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR).
Bhallamudi Sridhar, Regional Head, NABARD (J&K and Ladakh), graced the occasion as the chief guest. Addressing the gathering, he emphasized the importance of ground-level research in solving societal challenges and motivated the participants to contribute meaningfully to the academic and social landscape.
Prof Nanda, Course Director, while presenting welcome address outlined the Department’s aspirations for future initiatives aimed at advancing academic knowledge and research skills whereas Dr Shaveta Kohli, Co-Course Director, provided a comprehensive overview of the program, which saw the participation of over 30 scholars from across India, including states like New Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh.
The program featured a diverse lineup of expert-led sessions: Lectures on research design and qualitative analysis using ATLAS.ti by Dr Manas Pradhan from IIPS, Mumbai; discussions on ethics in academic writing by Dr Nancy Mengi (CUJ); hypothesis testing by Dr Vijay Shivgotra, Department of Statistics, University of Jammu; sessions on sampling techniques, probability theory, and probability distributions by Dr Pabitra Kumar Jena, Associate Professor, SMVDU; insights into research proposal writing by Prof Santap Mishra (CUJ) and a lecture on the Indian Knowledge System by Dr Ajay Kumar Singh from the Department of CCRC, CUJ.
Prof Satish Verma, formerly with GNDU, Amritsar and in RBI chair, CRRID, Chandigarh discussed emerging trends in social science research whereas Prof Falendra Kumar Sudan with the Department of Economics, University of Jammu dwelt on funding opportunities in social sciences.
Participants including Bhavya, Uma Bharti, Mohd Yasir, Pallavi, Ritu and Jyoti Dhankar, shared their enriching experiences during the course. A visual presentation of the 10-day workshop showcased its impactful journey.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr Anooj Bhadu, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, CUJ.
