The establishments include diagnostic labs as well as medical shops, which were found operating against the set protocols, leading to action from the authorities.
The action was taken by the concerned Tehsildar, Zeeshan Khan, along with other officials who carried out the inspection of various establishments in the market after several complaints.
“As per directives, we did a random check in Handwara market and found these establishments operating without registrations and in violation of the guidelines, prompting us to seal them; we will now be issuing notices to them,” Khan said.
He said that there were also a number of verbal complaints and it is “our duty to ensure that businesses run as per the norms and the patient safety is ensured.
The Tehsildar said that during the inspection, it was found that the registrations of some of these establishments are pending since 2021.
“If it had been a matter of a few months, we might have considered it, but we have to ensure that such establishments operate legally, thus taking action.”
He noted that once the sealed establishments obtain the necessary registrations and adhere to the protocol, “they will be allowed to operate once again.”
