10 injured in clashes

Srinagar, Nov 9: Clashes took places in several areas of Kashmir valley for second consecutive day today while parts of Srinagar observed spontaneous shutdown against the killing of Engineering student, Gowhar Nazir Dar.
Youths took to streets in parts of Old City including Nowhatta, Rajouri Kadal, Saraf Kadal, Gojwara and Kawdara this morning and enforced shutdown against the killing of Dar. They pelted stones on police and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
Police and CRPF fired teargas and pepper gas to disperse the youths but the protesters continued to pelt stones. The clashes continued intermittently throughout the day leaving several persons injured.
The clashes and shutdown also continued in HMT, Zainakote, Narbal, Shalteng and adjoining areas against the killing of Dar. The protesters in these areas blocked roads and pelted stones on police. The clashes continued throughout the day leaving six persons injured. Among the injured include a woman, Shahmali of Narbal. The movement of the traffic on Srinagar-Baramulla highway remained affected due to the stone pelting.
Protests broke out at Kashmir University (KU), SSM College of Engineering and Technology and Government Medical College Srinagar against the killing of Engineering student, Dar.
Scores of KU students boycotted their classes this morning and assembled inside the campus. Holding placards, the students protested against the killing of Dar.
In SSM College, normal work remained suspended in remembrance of slain youth as he was student of the said College. Dozens of students at the SSM protested against the killing of their colleague.
The doctors at Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar also held protests against the killing of the student.
Life in other parts of the Valley returned to normal after three days of shutdown, clashes, restrictions and protests. All the shops and other commercial establishments open and function smoothly. The traffic was also plying normally.
In the meantime, grandmother of slain youth Gowhar Nazir Dar died of heart attack soon after hearing killing of her grandson. Dar’s grandmother, Rehti Begum, died of heart attack at Warpora Sopore after hearing the death of her grandson.
