SRINAGAR, Aug 10: At least 10 civilians including two women were injured in a grenade explosion at Hari Singh High Street area of Srinagar today.
Militants lobbed a grenade towards 40 battalion of SSB near Hanuman Mandir here at Hari Singh High Street this afternoon.
Two women among 10 civilians sustained injuries. They were shifted to SMHS hospital for treatment.
The injured were identified as Gulzar Ahmad son of Ghulam Mohiuddin Ganie of Bandipora, Aparna Dera wife of Rangeet Dara of Calcutta at present HSHS, Arjan Singh son of Janak Siingh of Ramban, Owais Ahmad Laway son of Ghulam Mohiudin of Chanpora Srinagar, Firdous Ahmad Kotta son of Ghulam Ahmad of Bemina Srinagar, Abdul Gani Sheikh son of Abdul Ahad of Beerwa, Budgam, Mushtaq Hussain son of Ghulam Hassan of Khumani Chowk Bemina, Srinagar, Suhail Ahmad Dar son of Farooq Ahmad Dar of Chadoora, Budgam, Zulaikha daughter of Ashraf Ahmad of Kargil and Tariq Ahmad son of Mohammad Shafi of Burzhama Hazratbal Srinagar.
A police spokesman said preliminary investigation revealed that militants hurled a grenade towards Bunker of 40Bn SSB at Hari Singh High Street area of district Srinagar. However, the grenade missed the intended target and instead exploded on road resulting in minor injuries to 10 civilians who were evacuated to nearby hospital for the treatment of their injuries.
He said that following the grenade attack, all the entry and exit points in and around Lal Chowk area were sealed and all the checkpoints across the City Srinagar were activated.
IGP Kashmir, Vijay Kumar said that during the intensive checking, Police apprehended a suspicious person near Makkah Market Partap Park and upon the search of his bag two grenades were recovered.
The IGP identified him as Adil Farooq Bhat son of Farooq Ahmad Bhat resident of Khrew Pampore, a journalist working as Sub-Editor with CNS News Agency.
“Adil Farooq was arrested earlier also in February-2019 and detained under PSA for his involvement in providing logistics as well as other support to the active terrorists operating in Khrew area”, he said.
Police have registered cases under relevant Section of law regarding both the incidents and investigation is going on and more arrests are expected.
Militants this morning attacked a CRPF party in Kral Check area of Zainapora in South Kashmir’s Shopian district.
One CRPF personnel was injured in the attack. He has been identified him as constable Ajay Kumar of 178 Bn and said that he has been shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
A minor was today injured after an old shell exploded while digging at Dewar Lolab in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
A 12-year-old boy identified as Adil Farooq Sofi son of Farooq Ahmad Sofi got injured due to the explosion of an old shell. The boy received injuries while digging in the backyard of their house.
He was shifted to Sub District Hospital (SDH) for treatment where his condition is stable.
