10 injured in group clash over land dispute

MENDHAR, June 18: Ten people were injured in a group clash on land dispute near Sangla Chowk here today. According to police two groups of people having an old rivalry over the eight kanals and eleven marlas of land clashed this morning when one of the group led by Munawar Hussian, son of Faqir Mohammed of Gohlad tried to remove the encroachment made over the land by the another group headed by Mohammed Zabir, son of Bagh Hussian also of Gohlad. The two groups pounced upon each other with axes and lathis resulting into serious injuries to ten people from both the groups. After coming to know of the incident, the Mendhar Police team led by SHO Mendhar rushed to the spot and SDPO shifted the injured to Sub District Hospital Mendhar for treatment. Accusing the administration for its failure in settling the dispute for years together the members of Munawar Hussian group also resorted to dharna and shouted slogans against the tehsildar Mendhar saying that after measuring the land trice the Revenue officials failed to demarcate the same resulting in today’s clash. They later also resorted to dharna in front of SDM’s Office in the town and demanded probe into the matter. The SDM assured them that he will enquire the matter and take action against the culprits. Munawar Hussian claimed that the land belonged to him and the other group was forcibly trying to encroach it .The Mendhar Police has registered a case under Section 83/84 and arrested ten people belonging to both the groups.
