10 kgs poppy straw recovered

POONCH, Aug 2: The police seized 10 kg of poppy straw (Bukki) while it was being smuggled to Jammu from Kashmir region in an oil tanker via Mughal Road in Surankote area today.
Official sources said that carrying forward the special drive today on the directions of SSP Poonch Ramesh Angral, a police party led by SHO Surankote Anil Sharma and Incharge Police Post Behramgalla  Mohd Rafiq,  under the supervision of DySP Surankote  Khaliq Choudhary   a naka was laid at Behramgalla on Mughal Road  for checking of vehicle’s today.
During checking an oil tanker bearing Registration Number KAO1AF / 6559 which was on    way from Kashmir to Jammu was signaled to stop for checking. On seeing naka party  the driver of the vehicle stopped the tanker.
On thorough search of the vehicle, police recovered  Polythene bags filled with Poppy Straw (Bhukki) weighing about 10 kilograms from  accused persons namely Mohd Altaf , son of Mohd Afzal of Dharsekri   Rajouri and helper with the Tanker. Both were nabbed by police and the vehicles seized along with consignment.
In this regard a case FIR NO. 108/2020 U/S 8/15 NDPS Act stands registered against the accused persons  at Police Station Surankote and investigation has been geared up to ascertain the source and other persons involved in smuggling of contraband.
