POONCH, Mar 24: Exposing narco-terrorism nexus of the Pakistani agencies with the trans-border smugglers, the troops today foiled a major smuggling attempt by recovering 10 packets of narcotics in Shahpur area, near the Line of Control in Poonch Sector.
Official sources said that alert Indian troops during patrolling noticed a newly dug pit on the earth, covered with the stones and semi green newly felled branches of trees, on that side of the fence, closer to the LoC. They turned suspicious about possible dump of arms and ammunition.
The patrol party contacted the senior officials of the Doda battalion located in the area along the Line of Control in the sector. The special Army team along with dog squad arrived at the location and started search operation.

With the help of dog squad, the troops were able to recover 10 packets of Narcotics consignment, hidden under the stones and fallen branches of trees. The consignment was said to be of heroin, worth crores of rupees in the international market.
SSP Poonch, Rohit Baskotra when contacted said that an Army unit located closer to the LoC in Shahpur area has recovered 10 packets of narcotics from that side of the fence. It was hidden under the stones and braches of trees.
Baskotra said the police team from Poonch left for the location after receiving information. The recovered consignment was being handed over to Poonch police for further investigation by Army unit. The white powder like substance is believed to be heroin, he added.
