PATNA : Amid stray incidents of group clash and malfunctioning of EVMs, an estimated 10 per cent voter turnout was recorded till 0900 hrs in third phase of polling in 50 assembly constituencies in north and central Bihar today.
A Buxar report said that polling remained suspended for nearly ten minutes at booth numbers 168 and 169 after voters fought a pitched battle with the police and also pelted stones. The voters were irked over malfunctioning of EVMs and a dispute over queue.
Elsewhere, voters queued up at several polling stations across the constituencies spread over six districts before the the polling began at 0700 hrs in Saran, Vaishali, Nalanda, Patna,Bhojpur and Buxar districts. districts.
A stong 14.5 million electorate are expected to exercise their franchise. Governor Ramnath Kobind, state assembly speaker Udai Narayan Chaudhary, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, RJD supremo Lalu Prasad,former Chief minister Rabri Devi, Union minister of state for telecommunication Ravi Shanker Prasad former Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi were among those who exercised their franchise at different polling booths .
According to election office here, Vaishali recorded 13.31 per cent turnout followed by 10.29 in Saran, 9.41 in Buxar, 8.80 in Nalanda, 7.41 in Patna and 6.61 in Bhojpur.
State Director General of Police P K Thakur said polling was taking place in a peaceful manner in all the constituencies amid tight security arrangements. (AGENCIES)
