Srinagar, Sept 27: Over the past few weeks, nearly 100 cases of hepatitis have been reported in various areas of South Kashmir’s Shopian district.
According to officials, these cases, which have emerged sporadically, are largely attributed to the consumption of contaminated drinking water.
“The cases have been reported in different areas, and so far, around 100 cases have been recorded. The primary cause is the consumption of contaminated water,” officials stated.
They added that wherever cases have been reported in the district, measures have been taken to contain the spread and provide necessary treatment to those affected.
“It is under control. People have received treatment, and the health department has followed all protocols,” they said.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Shopian, Shahid Saleem, visited several filtration plants today, instructing officials to take necessary measures, particularly ensuring proper chlorination.
He emphasized that there is no need to panic, as the authorities are closely monitoring the situation.
“We have received some hepatitis cases from Keegam, Shopian, and other areas. There is no cause for concern, as the number of cases remains low,” he assured.
He urged the public to boil drinking water before consumption, stressing that the situation is being closely monitored.
“We are monitoring the situation. Chlorination has been carried out, and I have inspected the filtration plants as well, directing for measures. The public must also take preventive measures.”
