SRINAGAR, Dec 26: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today said that the round-the-clock electricity to the consumers would not be possible before the 100 per cent metering is done in Jammu and Kashmir.
Omar told reporters that they are trying their best to provide better facilities to the people and the complaints would pour in with regard to the pesky power cuts as it is the outcome of overloading.
“The people have an agreement of 4 bulbs but they use 4 heaters at home, which leads to the overloading and thus results in the unscheduled power cuts,” he said.
However, he said that the 24×7 electricity would be possible only when the 100 percent metering is done.
The Chief Minister said adequate arrangements are put in place for better facilities to the people during winters, but since there is a drought-like situation in J&K, he prays for the early snowfall so that the situation improves.
He added that the tourist rush is expected to increase once the snowfall occurs, adding that the efforts are on to make J&K a round-the-year tourist destination.
Omar while replying to a query, said that J&K is a UT and some issues cannot be resolved directly, but they are trying to ensure that the issues are at least heard.
Earlier, the Chief Minister chaired a meeting of the Srinagar district Member of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) of NC at his Gupkar residence.
The meeting was attended by Ali Mohammad Sagar, Shameema Firdous, Tanvir Sadiq, Salman Ali Sagar, Mushtaq Guroo and Ahsan Pardesi.
The MLAs discussed the issues confronting the people in their respective constituencies. The CM is holding district-wise back-to-back meetings of party MLAs.
“We have raised the issues like power paucity, roads and other things affecting the common masses in our constituencies,” one of the MLAs said.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister said that the concerned departments have been directed to adhere to published schedules for power cuts and optimize resource usage to minimize public suffering. He also said that instructions have been given to authorities to ensure a steady water supply to address the water shortage in Srinagar.
Despite challenges posed by a prolonged dry spell and cold weather, Omar assured the MLAs that every possible step would be taken to alleviate difficulties for the people.
Echoing the sentiments of MLAs regarding the challenges faced by traders, transporters, houseboat owners, hoteliers, craftsmen and Dal Dwellers, CM emphasized that the Government is actively working to fulfil its promises to all segments of society.
Omar stated that the Government is dedicated to reversing the development setbacks of the past decade by making significant investments in urban renewal, focusing on sustainable development and creating urban job opportunities.
