ANANTNAG, Nov 2: The 100th birth anniversary of martyr Sarwanand Koul Premi -a great legendry of his era , a scholar, a freedom fighter and a social activist was celebrated with great fervour at Late Sarwanand Koul Premi Government Higher Secondary School, Soaf Shali in tehsil Kokernag today.
The function started with the address of Principal of the institute, Nagina. She, while recalling the role of martyr termed him a great scholar, a guiding star and a poet of passion. While highlighting his legendary role in the speech, she said that J&K has lost a great humanist in his death.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Anantnag was the chief guest on the occasion who threw light on the life and contribution of Late Premi. He said besides, a social reformer, a great secularist and a freedom fighter, Premi was a philanthropist.
SDM Kokernag, while paying tribute to Premi said that he will be always remembered for his services to the people especially those belonging to downtrodden and poor families. He said it is duty of all of us to carry forward his legacy of love and brotherhood. Tehsildar Kokernag, BDO Breng and other officers also paid tribute to this great visionary.
On the occasion online recorded live programme of Rajinder Premi was telecasted. Besides, the online poetry of martyr was also highlighted in the programme.
In addition a series of lecturers, cultural events and skits were presented by the students of the institute on the life and teachings of Premi. Special lectures were also delivered by the teachers of the Institute.
The officers from various departments also participated in the programme to make it a success. The vote of thanks was presented by DDO of the Institute.
It may be recalled that Premi along with his son was assassinated by terrorists after they were kidnapped from their ancestral house in Soaf Shali and their bodies were thrown on a road in Anantnag town bearing the marks of torture for only his fault that bonds of Hindu -Muslim brotherhood in Kashmir are so strong that no power on earth can break it.
