SRINAGAR, Aug 29: Over 10,000 kanals of civilian land in Nowshera constituency is under Army and it pays crores of rupees as rent to the owners, but in tehsil Nowshera it does not pay rent to 13 farmers.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who is also the Minister for Home in a written reply to the question of NC MLC Dr. Shahnaz Ganaie informed the Upper House that 10,200 kanals and 7 marlas of civilian land is under the occupation of the Army in Nowshera constituency.
Giving tehsil wise data, the reply revealed 2,071 kanals of civilian land is under Army in Sunderbani, 8,129 kanals and 7 marlas in Nowshera tehsil.
Omar said an amount of rupees 1, 45, 53,656 is paid as rental compensation to the land owners on annual basis with Sunderbani land owners being paid rupees 37, 53,956 and rupees 1, 07, 99,700 in Nowshera tehsil.
On the details of land owners not getting rent/ compensation, Omar said: “The rental compensation is not being paid in Tehsil Nowshera in 13 cases on account of complaints.”
