JAMMU, Mar 23: 108/102 Ambulance service under Jammu & Kashmir Emergency Medical Services (JKEMS), an initiative of National Heath Mission with BVG India Limited (in Public Private Partnership) has successfully completed two years of service in the Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
The free of cost 24X7 emergency ambulance services was started on March 24, 2020 with a fleet of 416 ambulances which has now grown to 508 ambulances. The fleet includes a total of 142 Advance Life Support ambulances, 66 Basis Life Support and 300 Patient Transport ambulances.
The Centralized Emergency Response Centre of 108/102 JKEMS is situated in Channi Himmat, Jammu. In a span of 2 years, a total of 141936 patients have been served under this scheme which includes a total of 111965 related to Medical emergencies, 2434 related to police emergencies, 74 related to fire emergencies and 27463 patients served under 102 ambulances Janni Shishu Suraksha Karaykaram (JSSK). The data shared by BVG India Limited reveals that in every 10 minutes, 1 emergency case is served by 108 ambulances and in every 38 minute, 1 case in served by 102 ambulances.
The 108/102 Emergency Ambulance Services has proved to be a boon in Pregnancy related Emergencies and in Trauma Related Emergencies. As many as 37522 pregnancy related emergencies were reported at 108 Emergency Response Centre and 442 successful deliveries conducted with the assistance of the ambulance staff in the ambulance as well as at the scene in 2 years. Also a total of 4773 persons with Trauma Related Emergencies were rescued and admitted to hospital after providing the pre-hospital care during the period.
Also the JKEMS has played a vital role during the COVID-19 pandemic in the UTs of J&K and Ladakh. A total of 12147 patients related to COVID -19 suspected/positive had been shifted to the nearby dedicated COVID-19 Health institutions. More so, despite difficult terrain and scattered populated areas in the UTs, the service takes average response time of 14 minute and 33 seconds in urban areas and 18 minutes and 23 seconds in rural areas.
