11-day long Ganesh festival culminates with immersion of idols

JAMMU, Sept 15: The 11-day long Ganesh Mahautsav culminated today with the immersion of the idols of Lord Ganesh in different rivers across Jammu region.
During 11-day long festival the devotees worshiped Lord Ganesh at specially erected Pandals in different parts of the region on which the idols of Lord were seated. Besides, the local people the migratory labourers in large numbers participated in the 11-day long festival which started on September 4. During the 11-days pooja archana was performed daily to invoke the blessings of the Lord by the devotees.
On the concluding day of the festival today processions were taken up from different places with the idols taken in open vans, Gypsies, tractors and horse carts for immersion. The devotees enroute were singing bhajans and reciting religious hymns in praise of Lord.
In Jammu the idols of Lord Ganesh were immersed in river Tawi at Harki Puri where a heavy rush of devotees was seen from early in the morning and continued upto late in the evening.
Before the immersion of the idols a traditional pooja archana was performed. The devotees also danced to the tune of drum beats enroute. The procession of Lord Ganesh for immersion of idols were also taken to Akhnoor from different parts of Jammu where the idols were immersed in river Chenab (Chender-bagha).
In Kathua the processions were taken from different parts of the town and surrounding villages to river Ravi and Kathua Canal by the hundreds of devotees who mostly included the migratory labourers.
Immersion ceremonies were held at Udhampur, Samba, Hiranagar, RS Pura, Ramban and other places.
