Srinagar, Nov 3: Militants today lobbed a grenade at a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) bunker near a crowded flea market in Srinagar, injuring at least 11 civilians.

The attack took place at the Tourist Reception Centre (TRC), near a heavily guarded complex housing All India Radio and Doordarshan Kendra. It comes a day after security forces killed a top commander of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) Khanyar locality of downtown Srinagar.

A senior police officer said the militants hurled the grenade at the CRPF bunker near the TRC. “However, the grenade missed the intended target and landed on the roadside, injuring 11 people,” he said.
The blast took place close to the weekly flea market, popularly known as the Sunday market, which is thronged by thousands. The explosion caused panic in the market place and sent shoppers scrambling for cover.
Those injured have been identified as Misba, 17, daughter of Mohammad Amin Tantry of Nowgam, Srinagar; Azaan Kaloo, 17, son of Javaid Ahmad Kaloo of Noorbagh, Srinagar; Habibullah Rather, 50 son of Abdul Jabbar of Kaloosa, Bandipora; Altaf Ahmad Seer, 21, Abdul Rashid of Amshipora, Shopian; Faizal Ahmad, 16 son of Fayaz Ahmad Baig of Khanyar, Srinagar; Uzer Farooq Bhat son of Farooq Ahmed Bhat of Pattan, Baramulla; Faizan Mushtaq, 20, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Sofi of Pampore, Pulwama; Zahid Wani, 19, son of Gulzar Ahmad Wani of Checkpora Kalan Nowgam; Gulam Muhammad Sofi, 55 son of Gulam Ahmad of Chattabal, Srinagar and Sumaiya Jan, 45 wife of Zubair Ahmed Lone of Naidkhai, Sumbal, Bandipora.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, VK Birdhi, visited the injured in SMHS hospital. He wished the victims a speedy recovery and assured that action would be taken against the perpetrators of the attack.
