11 injured as Sumo skids near Mendhar

MENDHAR, Jan 8: At least eleven persons including seven women and girls were injured, when a Tata Sumo vehicle skidded off the road and turned turtle at Behra, near Mendhar in district Poonch today.
A police spokesman said that mishap took place when the private vehicle, bearing registration No. JK02AH/ 1415 was on its way to Mendhar town from Salwah. 12 persons including driver and a child were on board. The vehicle was in speed and the driver could not control it at a sharp curve.
The Sumo skidded off the road and rolled down into a small gorge at around 9.30 am. Immediately after the mishap, the driver Javed Ahmed escaped from the spot sensing thrashing by the passengers and others. The police party led by SHO Mendhar and jawans from 37 RR rushed to the site of accident. They removed all the accident victims to Sub District Hospital, Mendhar.
The injured were identified as Zahida Kouser, Mohd Razak, Rubina Kouser, Azmat Bi, Wasim Rashad, Parveen Akhtar, Gulshan Bi, Rehmat Bi, Tabasum Bi, Mukhtar Ahmed, and 6 months old Munna, son of Imtiaz Ahmed, residents of Salwah. Seriously injured Wasim was being referred to GMC Hospital, Jammu. The police has registered a case in this connection. It was private vehicle and was being used for commercial activities, the police said.
