11 killed in road mishap at Sadna Top, Sumo rolls down into 400 feet gorge

SRINAGAR, Aug 11: In a tragic accident, 10 passengers and driver were killed near Sadna Pass, Tanghdar in the North Kashmir’s Kupwara district this evening when an ill fated Taxi in which they were travelling rolled down into a deep 400 feet gorge.
Reports said that the passengers including four of a family were travelling in a Sumo bearing registration no JK013 – 7383 from Karnah to Badi Behak when driver lost control over the vehicle and it rolled down into 400 feet deep gorge at Stage-II near Sadna Top. The dead include six men, three women, a children and driver of the vehicle.
Deputy Inspector General of Police, North Kashmir, Garib Dass told Excelsior that rescue teams of Police and Army rushed to the spot to carry out rescue and retrieval operation. He said that the additional rescue teams were also sent along with ambulance. All the passengers were residents of Karnah.
Dass said that cause of the accident is being ascertained. He, however, said that weather was foggy in the area where the accident took place.
Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has expressed grief over the deaths.
“Chief Minister conveyed his sympathies to the bereaved families in their hour of grief and prayed for peace to the departed souls,” an official spokesman said here.
