JAMMU, July 30: The Amarnath Yatra is day by day decreasing and on the 29th day of pilgrimage today, 1,115 pilgrims paid obeisance to Ice Lingam in holy cave situated at an altitude of 13000 feet in deep Himalayas in South Kashmir’s district of Anantnag .
With this, the total number of pilgrims performing darshan in holy cave since 48 day long yatra started on July 2 touched 2,12,822.
According to an official spokesman, 333 pilgrims left from shortest Baltal track for holy cave today while 210 pilgrims reached Baltal from Jammu this morning.
He said 370 pilgrims left from Chandanwari to holy cave this morning and they included 221 yatris who left from Baltal base camp. Besides, 12 pilgrims left via chopper for cave shrine and 40 returned from there by chopper.
He said 230 pilgrims are staying at Nunwan base camp for night.
The spokesman said the weather during the day was pleasant except drizzling once at Baltal and holy cave area. However, the yatra proceeded smoothly, he added.
He said one pilgrim died at Pissu Top today. He has been identified as Palvi Manik Sharma, S/o Shaiv Ram Sharma of Ghat Shirias, Ahmednagar, Maharashtra. He was 67. With this, total of 21 pilgrims have died during the ongoing yatra.
Meanwhile, 311 pilgrims left for two base camps of Nunwan-Pahalgam and Baltal today from Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in a cavalcade of nine vehicles. This is the lowest batch of pilgrims leaving for holy cave from here since the first batch left the Yatri Niwas on July 1.
