115 kg poppy straw seized, 2 narcotic smugglers arrested

UDHAMPUR, Oct 13: In two separate cases, Udhampur police today recovered consignments of more than 115kg poppy straw from narcotic smugglers at Rehambal area.
Reports said that Police party of Police Station Rehambal, led by Inspector Pushpinder Singh, under the supervision of Addl SP Udhampur Anwaar Ul Haq and DySP Hqrs Udhampur S Gurmeet Singh, laid a naka at Garnai on the National Highway Udhampur for checking of vehicles. During naka checking, police party stopped one vehicle bearing registration number DL14CD- 3741. During search, 106 kg poppy straw was recovered from the said vehicle.
However, driver of the vehicle managed to escape from the spot by taking advantage of heavy traffic on the road. Police seized the recovered poppy straw as well as the vehicle and registered a case FIR number 265/23 U/S 8/15 NDPS Act in PS Rehambal.
In another success, Police party of PS Rehambal stopped one more suspicious vehicle bearing Registration number PB29AC- 6570. During search, 09 kg 130 grams of poppy straw was recovered from said vehicle. The accused driver of the vehicle, namely Ranjit Singh, son of Chamkau Singh of Moga Punjab and his associate Ranku Singh, son of Shinder Pal Singh of Ludhiana, Punjab were arrested on the spot.
The involved vehicle and recovered poppy straw were seized. In this connection, another case FIR number 266/2023 U/S 8/15 NDPS Act has been registered at PS Rehambal and further investigation is going on.
