12 kanals of forest land retrieved in Bhaderwah

BHADERWAH, Apr 20: Forest Department has retrieved 12 kanals of forest land from land grabbers as part of an anti-encroachment drive in Bhaderwah Forest Division (BFD).
Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Chander Shekhar said that after getting reports that forest mafia has become active while trying to take advantage of the lockdown, a team of territorial Forest Department and Forest Protection Force (FPF) constituted by the DFO carried out the drive in Kellar range of BFD to remove encroachments from forest lands in the area.
“The Forest Department today retrieved 12 kanals of forest land during an anti-encroachment drive in compartment 13/K of Gurakha block in Kellar range of Bhalla tehsil”, DFO said. The team faced stiff resistance, however, it succeeded in retrieving 12 kanal of forests land from the possession of 5 encroachers, he added.
The team removed the brush wood fencing put up by the encroachers. He directed the field staff to install the fresh boundary pillars in the area so that the encroachment attempts are prevented in future. The department is taking all measures to prevent the encroachment on forest land at every cost, DFO said.
Meanwhile, he said that the department has increased the surveillance and constituted a committee to demarcate the forest land and identify the land grabbers in Chiralla, Bhalessa, Kellar and Neeru ranges of Bhaderwah Forest Division.
