JAMMU/SRINAGAR, Aug 24: A total of 125 new positive cases of Coronavirus (COVID-19) were reported today from Jammu and Kashmir, taking the total number of cases in the UT to 324420 while one COVID death was also reported from Kashmir region.
Of the 125 new COVID cases, 21 were reported from Jammu Division and 104 from Kashmir Division. While Jammu district reported 8 new positive cases today, 3 new cases were reported each from Rajouri and Doda districts of Jammu division.
Forty-seven COVID patients also recovered and discharged from various hospitals of Jammu division, taking the total number of recovered patients in Jammu division to 120320 and leaving the total number of active positive cases to 352 only.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Ashok Sharma while expressing concern over COVID-19 scenario in the district, said that there are still 47 active cases in the district and the weekly positivity rate has gone up from 0.29 percent to 0.5 percent this week which is the cause of concern, if not controlled in time.
Addressing media persons, the DC said that 3 new micro-containment zones have been notified in Kishtwar Township and its peripheries after new COVID positive cases were reported in these hamlets. He said that test-track-treat and ‘tika’ strategy has been placed in these areas to contain the spread of virus effectively and efficiently.
He appealed the people of Kishtwar district to avoid venturing outside unnecessarily and follow the COVID-19 SOPs in letter and spirit by wearing face masks, maintaining hand hygiene and observing social distance. Regarding vaccination, the DC said that 100 percent vaccination of the above 45 year population has already been achieved and 45 percent of the population below 45 year has also been vaccinated for the first dose in the district.
Meanwhile, the Kashmir region reported 104 new COVID cases and one COVID death today. Those who tested positive include 50 from Srinagar, 7 from Baramulla, 13 from Budgam, 10 from Pulwama, 2 from Kupwara, 12 from Bandipora, 8 from Ganderbal, 1 each from Kulgam and Shopian. The number of positive cases in Kashmir division has reached to 201,585 including 198,641 recoveries and 2,241 deaths while the total number of active positive cases is 703.
As per officials figures, 72,042 positive cases including 834 deaths and 70,931 recoveries are from Srinagar, 23,823 including 282 deaths and 23,476 recoveries are from Baramulla, 23,080 including 22,811 recoveries and 206 deaths are from Budgam, 15,295 including 15,078 recoveries and 194 deaths are from Pulwama, 14,212 including 166 deaths and 14,004 recoveries are from Kupwara, 16,439 including 16,188 recoveries and 205 deaths are from Anantnag, 9,616 cases including 9,453 and 101 deaths are from Bandipora, 10,081 including 9,945 recoveries and 78 deaths are from Ganderbal, 11,403 including 11,224 recoveries and 117 deaths are from Kulgam and 5,594 including 5,531 recoveries and 58 deaths are from Shopian.
With 123 more recoveries, the tally of total recoveries in Jammu and Kashmir has reached to 318,961 which is 98.32 percent of the total cases.
Meanwhile, one new confirmed case of Mucormycosis was reported today, thus the taking total number of confirmed cases to 44 in the UT of J&K.
