JAMMU, June 12: India Reserve Police (IRP), 13th Battalion, celebrated the raising day of J&K Police at its Battalion Headquarters, Ghaink (Seri), here today.
The day was marked by conduct of Special Parade Inspection by its Commandant, SR Samuel.
A grand function was held, which was attended by members of the civil society, retired police officials of the area along with Police fraternity.
The ceremonial function was followed by various cultural programmes with great Pump and show by various officials of different ranks of the Battalion.
A Volleyball match was also held between the police team and civilians.
Earlier, addressing the officials of the Battalion, SR Samuel threw light on the evolution and glory of J&K Police. He said that the present structure and functioning of Police has evolved over the past more than 140 years as J&K Police came into existence in 1873. With the passage of time J&K Police has undergone both structural and functional changes and emerged as one of the best Police forces in the country known for its efficiency and professionalism, he added.
He maintained that the present strength of manpower in J&K Police accounts for more than one hundred and twenty thousand personnel, aimed at discharging of multifarious duties. The role of Armed Police has also been highlighted in the recent times in the maintenance of law and order, he said.
The programme concluded with vote of thanks by deputy SP of the Battalion, Ghulam Rasool.
