DEHRADUN, May 10:
As many as 13 people were killed and 14 injured when the bus fell into Mandakani river in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand today.
The bus, on way from Ghat to Vikasnagar, rolled off the mountainous road near Nandprayag in Chamoli and fell into the river, according to State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) sources here.
The local administration and ambulances reached the spot and launched search and rescue operations.
At least 14 people were taken to Government medical hospital at Gopeshwar for treatment.
Governor Dr Aziz Qureshi and Chief Minister Harish Rawat have issued condolence messages over the incident and prayed that God grant peace to the departed souls and strength to their kin to bear the loss.
The leaders also prayed for early recovery of those injured in the accident.
The Chief Minister has also announced compensation of Rs one lakh to the kin of the deceased and ordered proper treatment of the injured.
Mr Rawat also directed that a probe by DM level official be held into the causes leading to the tragic incident.
Earlier, 13 people had died and 30 were injured as a bus fell into a deep gorge near Devprayag in Tehri district on Badrinath-Rishikesh national highway on May 7. (UNI)
