JAMMU, Apr 23: In a pre-emptive move to safeguard the integrity of the ongoing General Elections 2024, police have detained 13 known drug peddlers from the Rajiv Nagar area, placing them in Central Jail for a 15-day period.
This decision stems from concerns that these individuals could potentially disrupt the electoral process through their drug supply networks.
A police spokesperson said that the detained individuals are repeated offenders with a history of involvement in the narcotics trade.
“They have been repeatedly reported by locals and identified through intelligence inputs as active drug peddlers, with multiple cases under the NDPS Act registered against them,” he explained.
The detained individuals, identified as Rocky, Vinay, Mishal, Rohit, Sangeeta, Arun, Hina, Reena, Arun Singh, Vishal, Totu, Pooja, and Ranjhana Kumari, were apprehended in a coordinated effort by various police teams from Police Station Bagh-e-Bahu, Bahu Fort, and Police Post Narwal, Bathindi.
The operations were conducted under the supervision of SDPO East and SP South Ajay Sharma, with strategic guidance from SSP Jammu, Dr Vinod Kumar.
SP Ajay Sharma underscored the commitment of Jammu South police to continue identifying and taking decisive legal action against those involved in drug peddling.
“This is part of our broader strategy to clean up our streets and protect our citizens from the scourge of narcotics, ensuring a safe and fair election process,” he stated.
