MENDHAR, Nov 20: At least 13 trucks loaded with wheat and rice await unloading at Mendhar town for the last four days.
The drivers of these vehicles hailing from Jammu, Rajouri and Poonch told the Excelsior that they had lifted ration from Poonch CAPD stores for the delivery at Mendhar four days back. Due to the indifferent attitude of the local CAPD staff, they were facing harassment and their vehicles have not been unloaded so far. The departmental labours arrive at the stores during noon and leave at 4 pm and nobody bothers to get the vehicles unloaded. They have been left to suffer there for days together.
While the TSO Zamir Mirza claimed that there was not enough space in the stores, the aggrieved drivers alleged that main store of the CAPD was half empty while department has hired eight private shops in the town for the storage of the food grains. The drivers also alleged that against the SRTC approved rate of carriage from Poonch to Mendhar, they are given about Rs 1600-1800 less amount by the SRTC contractor in connivance with CAPD staff.
Assistant director CAPD Poonch, Mohd Naseeb when contacted that he was not aware of the matter and assured to hold an inquiry. He said that vehicles with food grains were sent to Mendhar only after they had space for the storage. The AD said that he was not aware of the old practice there but he will take serious note of it.
