JAMMU, Mar 30: The Jammu and Kashmir State Pollution Control Board (SPCB) today carried out an anti-polythene drive in industrial area Gangyal and seized around 1380 kilograms of banned polythene material.
The drive was conducted under the direct supervision of Member- Secretary J&K SPCB, B.M Sharma and Regional Director Jammu, Shally Ranjan on the directions of Chairman SPCB, Ravi Kesar.
Regional Director SPCB directed the anti-polythene squad to intensify the raids in the Jammu city, outskirts and industrial areas as well to curb the menace of banned stuff of polythene bags.
The SPCB team called upon the traders, shopkeepers, hawkers and the general public to avoid storage, sale and use of banned polythene materials and helping the authorities in nabbing the culprits by sharing information at J&K SPCB website: www.jkspcb.nic.in.or by calling on 0191-2476925, 26, 27.
Pertinently, the use of polythene carry bags, packaging material and other allied products having thickness less than 50 microns has been banned by the state government.
