Sectt employee tests +ve, staff sent to quarantine

Srinagar, May 8: Thirty people including 14 workers of an industry in Budgam area owned by a politician tested positive today taking the number of COVID-19 cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 823.
Dr Farooq Jan, Medical Superintendent SKIMS said that seven samples tested positive for Corona at Viral Diagnostic Lab of the hospital. He said three are from Ganderbal, one each from Budgam, and Baramulla and two from Kulgam.

Nodal Officer Government Medical College Srinagar, Dr Salim Khan, told Excelsior that 834 samples were tested at Chest Diseases Viral lab Srinagar today and 23 tested positive. “They include 14 from Budgam, 5 from Kulgam, one from Anantnag, three from Super Specialty Hospital Srinagar including father of a man who died two days ago and a sanitary staff of the hospital”, he said.
Among 15 cases from Budgam district, 14 are workers at FIL Industries Limited at Rengreth which deals with agrochemicals and fruit juice concentrates. The FIL Industries is owned by Altaf Bukhari and it had started operations under essential services category.
Five among them are from Main Budgam aged 20, 27, 30, 32, and 35 years, 3 from Khan Sahib area of the district aged 22, 26 and 29 years; two are from Narkara and are aged 22 and 26 years and a 41-year-old man from Lallipora, a 20-year-old man from Beerwah, 26-year-old man from Frestiwar, 27-year-old man from Khan sahib and 30-year-old man from Lapora Chadoora. The Khan Sahib man tested positive at SKIMS and other at CD hospital laboratory.
Eight cases from Kulgam include a 30-year-old pregnant woman, a 25-year-old woman who delivered a baby inside vehicle and was later admitted to local hospital. A 25 year old man having travel history to Himachal Pradesh and 36-year-old man from Manzgam, a 55-year-old from Chakbadwani with travel history to Amritsar, 32-year-old man from Dooru, Anantnag under Kulgam health zone and two men aged 58 and 30 years from Urhanhal area.
The contacts of the 25-year-old woman who delivered inside the vehicle and was later admitted to Kulgam hospital have been traced and quarantined. They include doctor and nurses who came in contact with the woman.
And 50 year old man from Alamgari Bazar Srinagar admitted in Oncology Ward in Super Specialty Hospital (SSH) Shireenbagh tested positive today. His 32-year old attendant son died two days ago and later tested positive. His another 60 year old relative from Hawal also tested positive for the COVID-19. A 45-year old woman working from Qamarwari Srinagar and working at the hospital also tested positive today.
The three cases reported in Ganderbal district include three men, two of them in early 20s and other 25-year-old from Chanthan and Urpash areas respectively.
An Orderly at Civil Secretariat Srinagar also tested positive and some staffers have already gone for self-quarantine after his test report was conveyed to the staff.
A resident of Mansbal, he visited the office of the Director Expenditure on Sunday, a day before Darbar Move offices opened here. He had also visited the office next day and was told not to visit the office as he showed some symptoms.
His elder brother is a cancer patient and is admitted at Super Specialty Hospital Shireenbagh.
This is the first case when an employee at the Secretariat has tested positive. Following it, Srinagar Municipal Corporation carried out sanitization at third and fourth of the building which also houses among others the offices of Lieutenant Governor, his advisors besides top bureaucrats.
With these cases, Bandipora has 134 positive cases with 58 active followed by Srinagar with 129 cases including 50 active; Anantnag 122 with 120 active, Baramulla 106 with 61 active, Shopian 98 with 51 active; Kupwara 69 with 36 active; Budgam 46 with 33 active; Ganderbal 19 with 5 active; 20 from Kulgam with 15 active and 12 from Pulwama with 8 active.
The COVID-19 positive cases have gone up to 823-755 in Kashmir and 68 in Jammu. Among them, 450 are active and 364 have recovered including 29 today while 9 others died.
The officials said 88067 travellers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance which included 18477 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 186 in Hospital Quarantine, 450 in hospital isolation and 8724 under home surveillance. Besides, 60221 persons have completed their surveillance period.
